Postal chiefs were due in Stroud today for a meeting that could
decide the future of popular Uplands Post Office.
The 150-year-old facility was initially due to close its doors
for the final time two weeks ago, under the Post Office's
controversial Network Change programme.
However, campaigners won a last-minute stay of execution with the
threat of a legal challenge in London's High Court. A judicial
review of the closure by 73-year-old disabled Uplands grandmother
Mary Davies is ongoing.
This week, the managing director of Post Office Ltd, Alan Cook,
stepped in to the campaign, writing to Stroud Town Council and
Stroud MP David Drew.
