European Commission wants to know its lobbyists better

BRUSSELS, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission on Monday launched its online register of lobbies in a bid to know who they are, what they want and for whom they are working.

"Lobbying is a necessary and growing business, and regulation is inescapable ... By joining the commission register now, bona fide interest representatives have a unique opportunity to demonstrate their commitment in practice," said European Commission Vice President Siim Kallas, who is responsible for administration, audit and anti-fraud affairs.
