DAYTON -- Opening arguments in the murder trial of Lavone A.
Hooper, identified through DNA evidence as a suspect in a decade-
old homicide, are scheduled for this morning, June 24.
Jury selection, which began Monday before Judge Gregory Singer of
Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, lasted well into the
afternoon.
After that, the jury was taken to the former Hickorydale
Elementary School, where 20-year-old Edith Moorehead's battered body
was found Oct. 30, 1996.
Hooper, 29, of Dayton, is being tried on charges of murder, rape
and kidnapping. He also faces charges in an Aug. 5, 2006, sexual
assault, which will be tried before Singer after the murder trial.
Moorehead was reported missing ...
