McCormick profit up 29%

Spice maker McCormick & Co. Inc., of Sparks, said second-quarter profit jumped 29 percent due to higher sales in both its consumer and industrial divisions. Net income met analysts' expectations, rising to $53.3 million, or 41 cents per diluted share, from $42.4 million, or 31 cents per share, in the prior-year quarter. Excluding restructuring charges and credits, which included a gain on the sale of a manufacturing facility, the company said it earned 39 cents per share. Revenue rose 11 percent during the quarter to $764.1 million from $687.2 million in the second quarter of 2007. Analysts had predicted revenue of $738.6 million.
