Old radio jocks don't die, they just move to Mangawhai Heads.

Industry veteran and former Hauraki morning pirate Mark Perry chucked in the high-profile, glamorous life of a breakfast show host a while back. He now kicks around on a six-acre bush block in Northland, does freelance voice work from his home studio on the property and runs his own low-power FM station, Heads FM.

"Technology gives you freedom and you either embrace it or get left behind," he says. "I've managed to turn it to my advantage. I've got clients around the world, I'm doing stuff from my studio up here in Mangawhai and because of broadband I can send hefty files anywhere."
