Indonesian President Susilo asks to maintain security ahead of election

JAKARTA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday asked the people and politicians to involve in maintaining security and order ahead of general election next years.

The request was made at his speech at a function to mark International Occupational Health and Safety Day at the State Palace here, following the frequent of protests in some big cities recently which turned to violence.

On Tuesday night, police arrested nine students allegedly engaged in violence during their protest against the oil price hike in Jakarta.
