How they got there: Four women talk about becoming the managing
partner
* Elsie L. Reid of Furey, Doolan & Abell LLP said it was a "very
easy thing" for the firm to make her managing partner. In 1977, she
was the first associate the founders hired; later, she was the first
E. William Furey, Devin J. Doolan and W. Shepherdson Abell promoted
to partner.
By 1998, Doolan and Abell had been passing the managing partner
job back and forth and it was "time to rotate the burden around,"
especially since the firm was growing, Reid said. These days, the 13
partners of the firm vote on managing partner every three years.
Reid, a land use and zoning lawyer, is up for re-election next week.
