Milwaukee officials aren't opposed to all the big bangs coming
this Fourth of July weekend at the lakefront and area parks.
It's all the little ones they want to crack down on.
Armed with tougher penalties for fireworks, a group of Milwaukee
aldermen Monday urged residents to leave the lighters at home when
they celebrate this weekend.
In March, the Common Council increased the fireworks penalties,
which used to range from $100 to $500 per violation, to $500 to
$1,000 per violation. Additionally, parents and guardians can face
fines of $1,000 for allowing minors to use fireworks.
What's more, if the fines are not paid, it can result in up to 40
days in jail.
