Female candidates electability appears greater in Cambodia's general election

PHNOM PENH, July 1 (Xinhua) -- although fewer in number than in the last national election, woman candidates for this month's Cambodian National Assembly (NA) election are more likely to get elected than in 2003, said national media Tuesday.

The Committee to Promote Women in Politics (CPWP), which is made up of seven local NGOs, said that the three percent drop in the number of female candidates this year compared to the 2003 national election "has raised disappointment among woman candidates," according to English-Khmer language newspaper the Cambodian Daily.
