He's better late than ever

MONTREAL - Leonard Cohen was on his knees, of all things. The sweeping refrain of "Hallelujah" had flared up to its jubilant climax, and Cohen went down to mine the song's emotional depths.

As his three backup singers resonated like a thousand voices strong, and the drums, Hammond B3 organ, and electric guitar swelled, Cohen stood in the swirl and sang at the top of his lungs. He finally opened his eyes to take in the 15-second standing ovation.
