Interim DPS super unretires to take job

DAYTON -- Retirement doesn't seem to suit Kurt Stanic.

On Tuesday, July 1, the 56-year-old unretired for the third time and was sworn in as interim superintendent of Dayton Public Schools.

"I am a great believer that public education is the answer to success," he said. "I will work hard to provide a consistent, stable program where teaching and learning is our priority. It's that simple -- teaching and learning will be our primary mission. We will talk a lot about that."

The board is working out details of Stanic's employment. He has asked to work without a contract.

Board President Yvonne Isaacs said the presumption is that Stanic will fill in for the entire 2008-09 school year. A ...
