Just as I passed the turnoff to Quicksand, Ky., my morninglong
search for just the right radio station finally ended.
I found one that still does "Swap Shop."
My road trip was instantly brightened.
You can have your Tony Orlando songs and your Twisted Sister
double shots and your remotes from Wompie's Body Shop and Wrecker
Service.
Give me "Swap Shop," that folksy clearinghouse of the airwaves.
For those ignorant of this staple of rural America, it's an
opportunity for folks both to unload unwanted stuff and hear how
they sound on the radio.
The telephone exchange sounds something like this:
"Hello, you're on 'Swap Shop.'"
"I've got a transfer case for a 1975 Vega that I'm asking $75
for. ...
