Commentary: Will downtown projects spur economic growth?

If growth is coming, Jim Crary doesn't see it yet.
"We're already starting to see a slowdown thanks to fuel prices,"
said Crary, the owner of Tricom Communications on Dewey Avenue.
As with many businesses, rising oil prices have hit Crary's firm
hard, tripling expenses in some areas. Things could always turn
around, he said, but he's not counting on it.
"We're hoping [they will], but I have to be honest with you --
everything is taking a hit right now."
Others remain optimistic that Rochester's city center is poised
for a period of significant growth over the next few years, fueled
largely by an unprecedented number of large-scale projects,
including PAETEC's plans for a new $150 million, ...
