Revitalizing West Central ; New Pro's Ranch Market expected to bring boost

Atrisco Plaza roared back to life last week, as the brand new Pro's Ranch Market celebrated its grand opening.

And two hours after the Hispanic- focused grocery store opened its doors, the line to get in still stretched down out the door and down the sidewalk.

Sylvia Cerrillo, who lives in the area, said she enjoyed shopping at Pro's Ranch because of the wide variety of merchandise.

"It's a nice addition to this place. We needed it," Cerrillo said.

The plaza was abandoned by Wal-Mart in 1991 after complaints of rampant theft, and it has been a fairly barren corner ever since. It became the focus of a yearslong revitalization effort spearheaded by community groups.
