Don't wait for Santa Fe to fix health care issue

Just about everyone I talk with professionally these days wants to know if there really will be a special legislative session, called by Gov. Bill Richardson to push through the health care finance package that was rejected during the regular legislative session early this year.

The interest of business people and health policy advocates is understandable. This is New Mexico. It is our custom to wait for Santa Fe or Washington to solve our problems for us.

The answer is that I have no idea if Richardson really will call the session, but I do know that it is likely to be a waste of time and taxpayers' money if he does. There is no political will that I can detect to tackle health finance, ...
