Patrol advises caution for area motorcyclists during holiday travels

WOOSTER -- Last year ended with the highest number of statewide motorcycle fatalities in 20 years.

With expected favorable weather conditions, coupled with a long, three-day weekend and the number of motorcycles anticipated to take to roads, motorists are reminded to exercise caution and use good judgment throughout the July 4 holiday weekend, said State Highway Patrol Lt. Chad Enderby, commander of the Wooster Post.

Of the 197 motorcycle fatalities in 2007, Enderby said, 42 percent involved alcohol.

It's an important statistic to keep in mind when planning holiday celebrations, especially when the party might include alcohol consumption, he said.
