How network of 103 cameras is catching a criminal a day

One person is arrested every day as a result of the Bath area's crimefighting CCTV cameras.

From a small dark room in the Guildhall, the streets of Bath are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via cameras positioned across the length and breadth of the city.

There are 87 cameras in Bath and another 16 in Keynsham and Midsomer Norton, and officials estimate that around 400 arrests a year can be credited to their presence.

So far this year, police have asked Bath and North East Somerset Council, which runs the system, for a record number of images to use as evidence.
