Police sergeant killed in crash

A DRIVER killed in a crash has been named as a West Yorkshire Police sergeant.

David Heptinstall, 41, of Crigglestone, near Wakefield, a detective sergeant in the crime division, was recently commended for his work on the case of Stephanie Hammill, who died after she leapt from a moving car which she thought was a taxi.

Det Sgt Heptinstall was driving along the A650 Wrenthorpe Bypass at Wakefield towards Junction 41 of the M1 when his car left the carriageway around 7.55am on Monday. He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
