EMMC initiates no-noise campaign

BANGOR - In hospitals there is often no mistaking when it's dinnertime.

That one squeaky wheel on the meal cart has served as the dinner bell for decades at hospitals all over the country. The high- pitched chirp is enough to awaken the soundest sleeper, and monotonous enough to annoy the alert patient who is eagerly awaiting his boiled pork and steamed vegetables.

The staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center have recognized the legacy of the squeaky hospital wheel, but rather than digging out the grease, they are giving it the boot.
