YOUNG PEOPLE IN ACTION: Enid Cordero, 12, of Randolph was
presented recently with a Young Scientist Award by the United Way of
Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley at a ceremony attended by
Governor Deval L. Patrick. In 2004, the United Way joined with area
life sciences, healthcare, education, and technology businesses to
launch the United Way's Math, Science, and Technology Initiative,
which includes the Dream in Science program. The program offers
students in the sciences hands-on learning through after-school
programs. Cordero attended the program at the South Shore Day Care
Services in Randolph, and was chosen from a field of 300 students
