Mortgage Scammer Deserves Slammer

Norman Johanson is 70 years old and owes more than $200,000 on his mortgage.

He says he probably will have to work into his 80s to pay off the mortgage on a Manheim Township home he thought he owned until he discovered that his mortgage broker had squandered the money.

Wesley Snyder, the Berks County mortgage holder, is two years older than Johanson. He also will be occupied into his 80s because of fraud he perpetrated on more than 800 people, including 300 Lancastrians.

Snyder will be in prison well into his 80s following the decision by U.S. District Chief Judge Yvette Kane to sentence him to 12 years, 2 months for defrauding Johanson and others of nearly $30 million.
