David Clensy meets some elusive bats living the high life, in a
new pounds43,000 roost at a National Trust property
Should you ever arrive at Tyntesfield as dusk descends and the
bats are flapping around the neo-Gothic turrets on the rambling
Victorian pile, you'd be forgiven for feeling a shiver down your
spine.
It couldn't look much more like a setting for a horror film if
the Hammer production team had designed it as a movie set.
But with the first flush of morning, when bird song has replaced
the owl hoots and the bats have returned to their roosts, the
National Trust-owned property seems altogether more benign.
