The Inland Empire is horse country. Take a drive through Redlands
or our other local communities and you'll often find horses and
riders out for a ride. You'll also often see big yards and green
fields ringed by sturdy white horse fencing, where horses young and
old graze placidly.
On occasional quiet summer evenings you can even hear horses clip-
clopping somewhere in the distance along the back roads and dirt
lanes of our towns. You don't find that sort of imagery in the big
cities, but out here it's quite common.
What might be less commonly recognized is that, deep in the dirt
beneath the hoofprints left by living horses, the ancient relatives
of these animals have left their mark as ...
