A quiet Fourth of July was observed in Redlands, so far as a preconceived plan of celebration was concerned, the only scheduled "performance" for the day being the baseball game in the afternoon, and the general agreement that there would be plenty of firecrackers set off by individuals desiring to make a noise. Plenty of noise was made, not only upon the Fourth, but also from about sundown on the third, throughout the night. There was a booming of giant crackers, with a continuous fusillade of the smaller snappers, and at midnight the Congregational church bell was loudly rung.
