WHEN PETER Long, the chief executive of First Choice, posts
interims on Tuesday the management's view on possible mergers for the
group will be of much more interest to the City than the figures.
Last week's decision by Europe's supreme court to annul the 1999
ruling which blocked First Choice's planned merger with rival
Airtours has led to increasing speculation that a wave of merger
activity is set to sweep through the travel industry.
Analysts reckon the most likely link-up involving First Choice
will see the group make another attempt at a marriage with Airtours,
recently renamed MyTravel. This time around, however, any deal would
most probably see First Choice leading the way and ...
