Parades from the Past: ; Fourth of July celebration has been an important tradition for town of Ripley since 1877

Maybe the most memorable Fourth of July for people in the small town of Ripley was 1965, the year NBC's Today Show came to town to film its parade.

Or maybe it was 2002, the year President George W. Bush showed up.

One thing is for sure. Thousands of people travel to the small town just off Interstate 77 every year to reunite with family and friends at the Fourth of July day parade and celebration, billed as the "USA's Largest Small Town Independence Day Celebration."

On the same day in 1877, there was a picnic, a speech and dancing in the streets.
