Reader offers history of locale

Last week's "Recognize This?" photograph showed Baker-Crear's Interiors, but before that, the spot was home to Lowery and Wheaton Packard motorcar showroom.

"To the left, you see some tall doors," Ivan Hinerman of Redlands said. "That's where they did repairs. Barely visible is a covered building used to wash cars and steam clean. There was a sloping floor that collected the junk and sent it to the sewer. When I was a high school junior, there was a two pump service station to the left. From late 1954 to 1955, I ran the gas station - not a real serious responsibility, as not a lot of people came through."
