Article: The Interview: Daryl Hannah Daryl Hannah, 41, was born and bred in Chicago. Her big break came in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner, in which she played an acrobatic android. Other memorable roles include her performance as a mermaid in Splash. She is currently starring in Dancing at The Blue Iguana, in which she plays a stripper. She lives between California and Colorado, and has her own production company, Girlie Pictures.

Dancing at the Blue Iguana was an "improvised movie". How does that work?

At the start, all the director, Michael Radford, had in his mind was the title and location. The actors had to create their own characters, storylines and dialogue. It was an unusual process - we did theatre exercises eight hours a day for about three months and just started coming up with character qualities, building those characters and then putting them into different situations. I also did a lot of research of my own.

What kind of research?

Well I had to learn how to dance, and the only way that I could do that properly was to go and work in clubs like the Blue Iguana. I did that for five months.
