On Wednesday, Gazette readers were asked their opinion on the
latest proposal to build a Wal-Mart on the site of the Owens
Industrial Park in Kanawha City. Here are some of the comments
received:
I live on 58th street and want Wal-Mart and other developments in
Kanawha City. What do city officials propose to do about the
industrial waste that this site contains? I say let big business
like Wal-Mart clean it up instead of my tax dollars. Ask Kanawha
City First if they want their kids playing soccer on top of West
Virginia's version of Love Canal. Let Wal-Mart develop the site, and
the residents will reap the benefits of increased tax revenue.
