Article: Police review backers reach deal; Subpoena power crux of Jones- Dawson plan

The backers of two proposals for civilian review of police apparently have hammered out differences and joined efforts in creating a watchdog board to investigate allegations of misconduct. Alderman Anthony Dawson and activist Emma Jones announced they had reached a compromise between their two plans.

The new agreement includes components of both proposals.

Dawson and Jones both embrace subpoena power as key to ferreting out police malfeasance, the cornerstone of Jones' plan.

"He came to an agreement with me that it was a better way of going," Jones said over the weekend. "I thought it would give more credibility to the review board."
