Helping to chart town's new course ; Planning board chairman endorses charter reform adopted last year

Robert Harnais was excited about charter reform that was about to radically change the way Braintree does business.

Harnais, a Quincy lawyer, just didn't anticipate playing a role in what was going to happen.

After former selectman and state representative Joseph Sullivan was elected the town's first mayor in November, Sullivan's chief of staff, Peter Morin, approached Harnais regarding possible appointment to a new planning board.

At the time, Harnais had been a longtime member of the Quincy planning board and was its chairman.

Harnais, a Braintree resident for nine years, jumped at the chance to have a say in development issues the town would soon be facing.
