GAME OVER ; Dead consoles continue to create big headaches

It seems to happen every time there is a major firmware update for gaming consoles and even sometimes when the newest game is released: dead or "bricked" consoles. For gamers playing in the generation with the least stable hardware - in my opinion - it was more than annoying the first time it happened. It is ridiculous enough that many gamers such as myself probably do not even think about updating to the newest version until a few days after it has been released.

The latest culprit is the PlayStation 3's version 2.40, which includes the much-anticipated trophy system, the answer to Xbox Live's achievements.
