Neil Bettis helped himself to a century as Devon's game against
Dorset at Bournemouth fizzled out into a bore draw, writes Conrad
Sutcliffe.
So much time was lost to rain over the three days that a
meaningful game was almost impossible.
Had captains Bob Dawson and Tom Hicks been able to reach an
arrangement between them, bearing in mind such 'deals' are frowned
upon by the Minor Counties hierarchy, some sort of run chase could
have been contrived.
Devon captain Dawson was convinced at tea on day two that he and
Hicks had an understanding that would leave Dorset the best part of
the last day to chase a total of around 340 to win.
