On this day in 1933, state's voters said Prohibition was a flop ; Citizens agreed that ban did more harm than good

Seventy-five years ago today, New Hampshire ratified the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 17 minutes, repealing the prohibition of alcoholic liquors. After the necessary three- quarters of the states had ratified the amendment on Dec. 5, 1933, repeal was achieved.

New Hampshire's strong desire for repeal stands in sharp contrast to its longtime support for Prohibition. Although it was later reversed, the state had established statewide prohibition years before the Civil War.
