GORDON BROWN has clashed bitterly with Harriet Harman over
abortion laws in a dispute that has seen relations between Labour's
leader and deputy leader reach a new low, The Sunday Telegraph
understands.
Amid extraordinary scenes last week, the Prime Minister had to
intervene to stop an attempt by the Labour MP Emily Thornberry to
extend abortion laws to Northern Ireland, where the practice has
never been legal.
The subsequent row between Mr Brown and Ms Harman, a close ally
of Ms Thornberry on the issue, was, according to Labour sources, the
"real reason" behind the surprising announcement that the third
reading of the Embryology Bill, due to start tomorrow, would be
postponed until the ...
