It was an innocuous enough sign and there were similar signs
posted forward of every Brown Deer Park tee box for the U.S. Bank
Championship last July.
But for some reason, the one at the 18th tee caught Joe Ogilvie's
eye during a practice round only to emerge from his mind as the
final hole of the 2007 Championship was about to play out. It wasn't
so much what the sign said: "18, Par 5, 557 yards," -- as where the
sign was placed.
"It's funny, but I noticed that sign at 18, about 20 yards off
the tee during a practice round on Wednesday (before last year's
championship)," Ogilvie recalled. "The sign was about eight feet
high and it doesn't really come into play, but I kept thinking it
