It's not likely that Allegheny County's efforts to lessen the
impact of mortgage foreclosures will include a court-ordered
temporary moratorium on sheriff's sales.
That's the word from Joseph M. James, president judge of Common
Pleas Court who is working with Sheriff William P. Mullen and others
to craft a plan to help prevent hundreds and possibly thousands of
people from losing their homes.
James is considering Mullen's proposal that residents facing
foreclosure be given up to two months, rather than the current five
weeks, from the time they receive an official notice before their
homes are scheduled for a sheriff's sale.
