Article: Fort Meade's new commander assumes duties Monday

A change of command ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Monday on Fort George G. Meade's McGlachlin Field.

Col. Daniel L. Thomas will assume command of Fort Meade, becoming the 82nd commander of the installation. He will succeed Col. Kenneth O. McCreedy, who has been the commander of the post since June 2005. Col. McCreedy will be retiring from the Army with 28 years of service.

The fort is getting ready to accommodate more than 5,000 new jobs that will be relocating to the campus by September 2011 as part of Base Realignment and Closure process. Col. Thomas will be a major part of preparing for the transition of those new workers and families to the post.
