Cadillac county

There used to be a time when government cars meant American-made sedans that were economical and drab, but got the job done.

These days, a sensible and modest sedan just won't do for public officials. They opt for the "Cadillac" of the 21st century: gas- guzzling high-end sport-utility vehicles that serve no real purpose other than looking good.

It's the norm for elected officials to bump around town in one of those supersized vehicles, even while they are imploring regular people to recycle and take public transportation. And why not? It's not the officials' money that pays for the $40,000 vehicle, maintenance or gas. It's ours.
