INVASION of privacy by newspapers is a hot topic at the moment.
Motor sport boss Max Mosley is taking the News of the World to court
for what he says was a "gross and indefensible intrusion" by the
newspaper, which published pictures and an account of a
sadomasochistic encounter he had with five prostitutes that was
secretly filmed.
The newspaper claimed the sexual encounter had Nazi overtones and
role-playing. Mr Mosley, 68, is the son of the 1930s fascist leader
Sir Oswald Mosley. He strenuously denies any Nazi death-camp role-
playing. His lawyers are seeking exemplary and punitive damages for
what they say was an invasion of his privacy. That could amount to a
very large sum of money.
