Federal regulators seize IndyMac Bank in California

LOS ANGELES, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The federal government has seized IndyMac Bank in California in what regulators called the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history, it was reported on Saturday.

The Friday seizure resulted from a massive run on deposits, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The bank's 33 branches will be closed over the weekend, but the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) will reopen the bank on Monday as IndyMac Federal Bank, Office of Thrift Supervision in Washington was quoted as saying.

Customers will not be able to bank by phone or Internet over the weekend, regulators said, but can continue to use ATMs, debit ...
