A teenager was injured and his mother suffered smoke inhalation, after a severe fire broke out at a family home in Devon.

The fire is believed to have started in a first floor bedroom of the house in Fore Street, Kingskerswell in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Victoria Slaney, her 18-year-old son Ben, and Ben's 17-year-old friend were asleep when Ben realised something was wrong.

He woke the others and got them out of the house, but suffered an injury to his arm and his mother inhaled a large amount of smoke as they attempted to fight the blaze. It is believed the pair were trying to rescue the family dog at the time but were unsuccessful.
