A police dog handler and his Alsatian sparked an air and land
search after falling 15ft down a cliff in a night-time chase.
The police officer and his sniffer dog, whose names are being
withheld by police, slipped and fell down a cliff face as they were
chasing an offender at 11pm on Saturday.
The officer and dog both landed on a ledge north of Petitor. The
handler was trapped for one hour and 20 minutes. The officer, who
sustained minor injuries in the fall, alerted colleagues and a land
and air search involving the police helicopter, Berry Head and
Torbay coastguards, was launched.
A police spokesman said a man wanted by police had been spotted
in a vehicle near Watcombe Woods.
