With Gordon Brown virtually on his knees, assailed from all sides, particularly his own, Harriet (also rudely known as Harridan) Harman is giving Parliament the impression that she is pulling out all the stops to replace him should he be forced to quit.

On paper, she is well-placed to do so.

She is deputy leader of the Labour Party (although significantly not deputy Prime Minister), she is Leader of the House and Minister for Women.

She also answers questions in the House of Commons on behalf of Mr Brown when he is away.
