The evidence for further closures of post offices is now clear
because the Pension Service is terminating its contract with the
Post Office in 2010.
Its new partners then will include the NatWest Bank, which at
present, like HSBC Bank, does not allow any handling of current
accounts through the Post Office - unlike most other banks and
building societies.
I was told about the Post Office losing the contract by the
Pension Service when I complained on behalf of my mother, who has
received a letter advising her that her weekly Giro, paid into her
post office, is to be stopped and that her payment must be paid into
a bank account within four weeks.
