JULY GIVES CONTRAST TO EARLY JUNE HEAT WAVE

It's not often that the first 10 days of June are warmer than the first 10 days of July.

But that's exactly what has happened in Southwest Virginia this summer, and the margin between the two wasn't even close.

In early June, a searing heat wave pushed high temperatures in Roanoke above 90 each day from June 4 to June 10. Roanoke's mean temperature, averaging daily highs and lows, was 79.5 degrees during the first 10 days of June, which would be well above normal for any 10-day period in July or August.
