THE speed camera regime in West Yorkshire may undergo a rethink
with councillors pressing for more consultation on where cameras are
positioned in future.
Andrew Carter, the Conservative leader of Leeds Council, said the
decision by Swindon Council to consider withdrawing funding for
speed cameras would lead to greater scrutiny on how they operate.
He said the council remained supportive of cameras if they were
correctly placed at accident hotspots but added the positioning of
some was "questionable".
His comments came after it emerged Swindon Council is looking at
proposals to get rid of cameras and find other ways to spend the
