Article: Manchin calls for Tri-State to explain: ; Governor says work at track is public's business

Gov. Joe Manchin said Tri-State Racetrack & Gaming Center officials owe the public an explanation about the status of its multimillion-dollar table games expansion project, which was to include a 250-room hotel, conference center and entertainment complex in Nitro.

Last August, Kanawha County voters approved the addition of table games at Tri-State after a vigorous campaign by the track's owners who promised to build the hotel and create 1,000 jobs.

There has been no word from track officials on any construction timetable. And table games such as poker, craps, blackjack and roulette aren't available at Tri-State, although dealers are being trained.
