A devon businessman has been ordered to pay more than pounds6,500
for breaching fire safety regulations in what was the first case of
its kind involving the new fire service.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service had not previously
prosecuted for the offence but secured a conviction at Honiton
Magistrates' Court last week.
Richard Eley, owner of the Delderfields store, in Sidmouth,
pleaded guilty to having committed an offence under the Regulatory
Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
He had failed to comply with the requirements of an enforcement
notice which had been issued to him giving him six months to rectify
some problems. He was fined pounds3,000 and the fire and rescue
