Turner School District resists track and field temptation

The Turner School District won't try to pass a referendum for track and field money this fall, opting instead to let residents focus on town of Beloit projects.

"With the climate and economy we're in now, we just don't want to hurt our chances by running another referendum in November," said School Board President Norman Jacobs.

The district won approval in April for a $6.10 million referendum for building upgrades. But a $2.5 million referendum for track and field upgrades failed.

"We came very close -- within 100 votes -- in April," Jacobs said, "but I think it's just too soon to ask again."
